tion, and also the costs of the necessary record books to com-
plete said recopying and indexing.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 272.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 199
of Article 15 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Kent County," subtitle "Sheriff," as repealed and re-
enacted by Chapter 288 of the Acts of eighteen hundred and
ninety, so as to read as follows:

SECTION 1. Be it enacted, That Section 199 of Article 15 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Kent Coun-
ty," subtitle "Sheriff," as repealed and re-enacted by Chapter

288 of the Acts of eighteen hundred and ninety, be repealed
and re-enacted with amendments so as to read as follows:

SEC. 199. The Sheriff of Kent County shall be entitled to
receive a sum not exceeding fifty (50) cents a day for boarding
and keeping each prisoner committed to his custody, and the
said Sheriff is hereby required to keep a book at the jail, which
he shall procure for the purpose, in which he shall record the
name of each prisoner committed to his custody, and by that
authority, the time when received, and the offense charged,
and also the date of his discharge, which book shall be open to
the inspection of the County Commissioners, State's Attorney
and grand jury; and, should the Sheriff neglect to keep said
book or comply with any of the duties which he is hereby re-

quired to perform, he shall be liable to indictment in the Cir-
cuit Court for Kent County, and, upon conviction, shall be
fined not exceeding one hundred dollars ($ 100).

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect

from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 124.

AN ACT to authorize the Commissioners of Betterton to bor-
row money and to issue bonds for the sum of two thousand
dollars ($2,000.00) for the purpose of providing for and
improving sidewalks and streets in the town of Betterton, in
