82G LAWS OF MARYLAND.

after designated for improvement shall have been completed,
they shall decide what other streets or portions of streets, shall
be improved under the terms of this Act, and for all streets to
be improved, including these herein specifically mentioned or
hereafter to be selected in their discretion, they shall decide
and determine, according to their best judgment, what ma-
terials shall be used for such improvement, whether vitrified
brick, macadam, bitulithic, stone, Belgian blocks or other ma-
terials, and shall make all contracts for such work on the part
of the town, such contract to be in writing and to be executed
on their part by the signatures of their chairman and secre-
tary; and in carrying out the objects of this Act, they may
call to their assistance a skilled engineer or other person,
familiar with modern road construction, and may make such
agreement as to compensation and duties, with such engineer
or other person, as they may deem wise and advantageous.
They shall keep minutes of their proceedings and other records
and books necessary to the proper administration of the duties
herein imposed upon them, such minutes and records to be
open to the inspection of any taxpayers of Cambridge, and to
be turned over, after the completion of their work herein au-
thorized to the custody of the commissioners of Cambridge.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That in discharge of the con-
tracts entered into by them for the work herein authorized, the
said commission shall issue a warrant, on a majority vote, to
be signed by their chairman and secretary, for the payment of
the money due under the said contract, upon the treasurer of
the town of Cambridge, and the said treasurer shall pay such
warrants out of the funds in his hands applicable to the pur-
poses of this Act. The treasurer shall not otherwise disburse
the money in his hands, as provided for in this Act, than upon
the warrant of the said commission, executed as aforesaid.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid commission,
to be known as "The Cambridge Street Improvement Commis-
sion," shall as soon as practicable after the passage of this
Act organize and proceed with the work herein authorized, and
that High street from W,ater street to Locust street, Poplar
street, Race street from Poplar street to Washington street,
Gay street from Poplar street to Muse street, Muse street to;
Market street, and Market street to the bridge over Cambridge
Creek be the streets which shall be first paved under the pro-
visions of this Act, before work is undertaken on any other
street or highway of the town of Cambridge aforesaid, and
that it shall be in the discretion of the said commission as to
which one of the streets above mentioned, or what portion of
said streets, shall be first paved, curbed and otherwise im-
