794 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

county, or be answerable for by law, at which time as the law
shall direct, and if he shall further account with the said
County Commissioners for and shall pay to them or their
order the several sums of money, which he shall receive for the
said county, or be answerable for by law, for the county taxes
levied in the years nineteen hundred and eight and nineteen
hundred and nine, at such times as the law directs, then this
obligation shall be void; but otherwise it shall remain in full
force and virtue in law. The said bonds shall be respectively
executed and presented as aforesaid by the said W. Hamilton
Spedden and one surety or more than one surety, or b'y a guar-
anty and bonding company, incorporated under the laws of
the State of Maryland, as a surety. The bonds and the surety
or sureties therein shall be approved by the County Commis-
sioners, and such approval shall be endorsed on the same before
they are filed in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for
Dorchester County, and they shall be recorded by the said clerk
and a copy thereof, duly certified by the clerk, shall be admit-
ted and received in evidence in any of the Courts of this State.
Having become Treasurer of Dorchester County and Clerk of
the County Commissioners thereof as aforesaid, the said W.
Hamilton Spedden in all respects shall hold said office from the
date of the approval by the County Commissioners of the said
bonds to the end of the year nineteen hundred and thirteen,
and until his successor has been appointed or elected and has
qualified. The said W. Hamilton Spedden, as "Treasurer of
Dorchester County and Clerk," may appoint, with the appro-
val of the County Commissioners, some suitable person as his
deputy, to assist him in collecting the State and county taxes,
levied in the years nineteen hundred and eight and nineteen
hundred and nine, during the time allowed herein for collect-
ing the said taxes. Such deputy shall be paid such reasonable
sum as the commissioners shall fix, in writing, at the time
such deputy is appointed. And the said W. Hamilton Spedden,
as Treasurer of Dorchester County and Clerk, shall receive a
yearly salary of sixteen hundred dollars, which shall be paid in
equal monthly installments, and the said salary shall be his
sole compensation, except that he shall be allowed, first, five
per cent, of the taxes on mortgages collected by him; second,
the sum of one dollar on each one thousand dollars of newly
assessed property returned by him in the year 1910; third, and
in all cases where he shall sell real or personal property, under
the levies of nineten hundred and eight and nineteen hundred
and nine, the same fees and commissions allowed to the sheriff
of said county when selling property under execution.

107. On or before the second Tuesday of December, in the
year nineteen hundred and ten, the said W. Hamilton Spedden,
