hook and line; provided, that it shall not be lawful to set gill
nets and catch fish therein between the first day of September
and the thirty-first day of December in each year, in any creek,
cove, tributary or inlet of the Severn river, nor shall it be
lawful for any person to put, place, or set, construct or use in
the waters of the Severn river, or in any creek, cove, tributary
or inlet thereof, at any point above Red Point, on the north
side, and Pumphrey s Flats, on the south side, any net, instru-
ment or contrivance whatever now used in the taking or catch-
ing or destroying fish, or which may hereafter be invented or
used for such purpose, except with hook and line; for the
purpose of this Section the mouth of the Severn river shall be
construed to be a straight line drawn from Elm Bar to Chink
Point; nor shall it be lawful for any person, between the first
day of March and the first day of May in each year, to take or
catch fish in South river above the straight line drawn from
Hoges Wharf on one side to Old Woman's Point on the other
side, or in any of the creeks, coves, tributaries or inlets thereof,
between said dates, or in any of the creeks, coves, tributaries
or inlets of South river, within the time hereby limited, above
points where any such creek, cove or tributary is in the channel
of less depth than three feet; nor shall it be lawful for any
corporation or person to set, place, construct or use at any
time, in the waters of Curtis Bay creek, in Anne Arundel
County, or in any inlet thereof, any pound net, buck net or
purse net. Any person violating any of the provisions of this
Section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon
conviction thereof before a Justice of the Peace of said county,
shall be fined not less than ten dollars ($ 10.00) nor more than
fifty dollars ($50.00) and the costs of prosecution for each
offense, one-half of said fine to go to the informer and the
remainder to be paid to the Board of County School Commis-
sioners for Anne Arundel County for the use of the public
schools of said county; in default of payment of said fine and
costs, the offender shall be committed to the county jail for
thirty days, or until such fine and costs are paid, whichever
shall first occur.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
