1068 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

said additional sections to come in immediately after Section
230 of said Article 18, and to be known as Sections 230A, 230B,
230c, 230D, 230E, 230F, 230G, 230H, 230i, 230j and 230K, and to
read as follows:

SEC. 230A. The County Commissioners of Queen Anne's
County are authorized and empowered to control and regulate
the public roads and bridges in said county, subject to the pro-
visions of this Act.

SEC. 230B. The County Commissioners of Queen Anne's
County shall, at the time of making their annual levy, levy
upon the taxable property of said county a tax of not less than
fifteen cents on the hundred dollars, which shall be used for the
repair and reconstruction of public roads and bridges in said
county, which taxes shall be levied and collected as are other
county taxes. The said County Commissioners may appro-
priate or levy such other sum or sums of money as they may
deem requisite for building of new bridges and opening of new
roads, and for repairing and reconstructing public roads and
bridges in said county...All of the taxes levied and collected
under the provisions of this Section shall be disbursed by the
said County Commissioners upon the roads and bridges in said
county, and in the manner hereinafter provided, and in no
other.

SEC. 230c. The County Commissioners of Queen Anne's
County, on or before the first day of June, in the year nineteen
hundred and ten, shall appoint some competent person, who
shall have a sufficient knowledge of civil engineering to enable
him to accurately make surveys, plats, profiles and specifica-
tions for the grading, draining, maintenance, repairs and re-
construction of the public roads of said county, and also
to do the necessary engineering work for the building or re-
building of bridges, and who shall have at least three years'
experience in road engineering work,' to be County Road En-
gineer for Queen Anne's County, the said County Road En-
gineer shall hold his office for the term of six years from the
date of his appointment unless sooner removed for cause as
hereinafter provided, and shall receive a salary not exceeding
eighteen hundred dollars per year, payable monthly; and every
six years thereafter or in case of vacancy in said office, as
hereinafter provided, the County Commissioners of Queen
Anne's County shall appoint some competent person having
the above qualifications to be County Road Engineer of said
county, and the said appointment shall be made without any
reference whatever to the political opinions of the person so
appointed.
