SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 697.

AN ACT to prohibit the use of haul seines, drag nets, scrapes,
etc., in certain portions of Cox's creek and Kent Island Nar
rows, in Queen Anne's County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That it shall be unlawful for any person or persons under
any pretext whatsoever to employ the use of haul seines, drag
nets, scrapes or any other contrivance in the taking or catch-
ing of fish or terrapin (fikes, gill nets and hook and line ex-
cepted), in the waters of a portion of Cox's creek, in Queen
Anne's County, and its tributaries, north of a line drawn from
the wharf of what is known as Palmer's Oyster House, in
Cox's Neck, on Kent Island, westerly, till its strikes the shore
of John M. Cockey, on the opposite side of the creek, at what is
known as Jones' Hole, and in the waters of that portion of
Kent Island Narrows in Queen Anne's County aforesaid lying
south of a line drawn from Ferry Point, on the west side, to
Long Point, on the east side, and north of a line drawn from
Buck Horn Point, on the west side, to Cedar Point, on the
east side. Any person or persons violating this section shall,
upon conviction before a Justice of the Peace of said county,
be fined a sum not less than $25, nor more than $100, and costs
of prosecution, and, unless said fine and costs are paid, shall,
be committed to the county jail for a period of 60 days, or
until said fine and costs are paid; provided, the party con-
victed shall have the right of appeal if taken within 10 days
from date of conviction.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 586.

AN ACT to authorize, empower and direct the County Com-
missioners of Queen Anne's County to grant a pension of
fifty dollars annually to James H. Sparks, of said county,
