the transaction of business, and as such shall be authorized,
on behalf of the Board, to do all acts and to exercise all powers
which the said Board is authorized by law to do or to exercise.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the immedi-
ate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed upon a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of
all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the Gen-
eral Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage,

CHAPTER 444.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 49
of Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title
"Workmen's Compensation," sub-title "Claims and Compen-
sation : Benefits," as enacted by Chapter 800 of the Acts of
1914, providing that compensation shall begin from the time
the injury was received where the injured person is incapaci-
tated for a period of two weeks.

CHAPTER 445.
AN ACT to provide that $8,000 of the sum of $10,000 appro-
priated from the general treasury of the State by the Act of
1916, Chapter 251, for the purpose of building a hospital in
Charles County to be known as the Southern Maryland Emer-
gency Hospital, upon the conditions therein set forth, shall,
instead of being applied to the building of said hospital, be
applied to the acquisition of land for and the construction,
equipment and establishment of a High School for white
pupils in Charles County, the same to be located, constructed
and equipped by the County Board of Education of Charles
County in accordance with the provisions of this Act; and
providing also for the payment of the remainder of the cost
and expense of said High School, over and above $8,000 to
be paid by the State as aforesaid, which remainder shall not
exceed the sum of $4,000, from the net proceeds of the sale,
by this Act authorized, of the Indian Head public school lot
