CHAPTER 6.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the County Commission-
ers of Washington County, Maryland, to acquire by agree-
ment, gift, grant, purchase or condemnation proceedings
under the Public General Laws of Maryland, any toll road
or turn-pike whatsoever in said County, and to levy upon
the assessable property of said Washington County an
amount sufficient to pay for any such toll road or turn-pike,
and the said road shall thereafter be a public road of said
County of the width and length so acquired.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the County Commissioners of Washington
County, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to
acquire by agreement, gift, grant, purchase or condemnation
proceedings under the Public General Laws of Maryland, any
toll road or turn-pike whatsoever in said County, and to levy
upon the assessable property of said Washington County an
amount sufficient to pay for any such toll road or turn-pike,
and the said road shall thereafter be a public road of said
County of the width and length so acquired.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of June, 1918.

Approved March 22nd, 1918.

CHAPTER 7.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and Council of
Hagerstown to acquire by purchase certain real estate in
Hagerstown, Maryland, for the sum of $20, 000. 00 for mu-
nicipal purposes and providing means for the payment of
$13, 000. 00, the same being the balance due under the terms
of a contract without submitting the same to the qualified
voters of Hagerstown.

WHEREAS, By virtue of Chapter 58 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland passed at its January Session 1884,
the same being known as the Charter of Hagerstown, the
Mayor and Council are prohibited from acquiring any real
estate without submitting the purchase thereof by ordinance
to the qualified voters of Hagerstown.
