number of prisoners certified to him under Section 2 hereof
as may then remain, may be assigned by the Governor, in such
numbers as he may deem equitable, among and to the employ
of the cities, towns and counties so applying as aforesaid, for
work upon the public roads and streets thereof.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the State Board of Prison Control to provide for the guard-
ing, transportation, lodging, feeding, clothing and medical and
other care and attention of such prisoners while employed on
road work under this Act, or to make such arrangements there-
for as it may deem adequate and proper; and said Board
may make such rules and regulations as may be necessary or
proper to carry out the provisions of this Act. When prisoners
are assigned to the State Roads Commission under Section 3
hereof, the aforesaid expenses shall be paid by the State, but
when prisoners are assigned to any city, town or county, at its
request, under Section 4 hereof, said expenses shall be paid
by such city, town or county, under such arrangements there-
for as it may make with or as may be satisfactory to the State
Board of Prison Control.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That the State Roads
Commission, and each county, city or town, as the case may
be, shall pay to the State Board of Prison Control, for each
prisoner assigned to and employed by it, respectively, as afore-
said, such sum as may be agreed upon with the State Board
of Prison Control per day for each and every day that such
prisoner is so employed; from which sum, such payments as
the State Board of Prison Control may determine shall be
held by it to the credit of the prisoner for whose account
the same are made, and be paid to him upon his release
or discharge, or the said Board, in its discretion, may from
time to time pay such portion of said payments as it may deem
proper to the wife, children or other person or persons depend-
ent upon such prisoner, if found to be in need by the said
Board, and hold the balance of such payments to the credit of
the prisoner. The said Board may make such rules and regu-
lations with respect to the collection and disbursement of said
payments as may be necessary or proper.
