and collect taxes thereon necessary to carry into effect the
ordinances of the town, said tax not to exceed two dollars and
one-half on the one thousand dollars; to provide licensing any
peddler, huckster or any person trading or selling any pro-
duce, live stock or merchandise on the streets of said town; to
tax all telephone, telegraph and railroad poles fifty cents per
annum.
10. The Burgess and Councilman shall cause the footways
of said town to be paved and repaired at the expense of the
owners of lots binding thereon, whenever they may direct said
work to be done, and shall direct how and of what materials
the same shall be paved or repaired.
11. The Burgess and Councilmen may appoint annually a
policeman or policemen, who shall have power to preserve the
peace and good order of the town, and shall serve all civil
and criminal processes that may be directed to him, and per-
form such, other duties as may be prescribed by ordinances;
and they may, from time to time, appoint such additional
policemen and other officers as may be required for the preser-
vation of order in said town. The Burgess may also direct
civil and criminal processes to the sheriff of Frederick county
or to a duly qualified county constable, and when so directed
the said sheriff or county constable, as the case may be, shall
serve the same within the police limits of said town.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That nothing in this Act con-
tained shall be construed to impair or affect any right or con-
tract of the Burgess and Council of Myersville heretofore
acquired or made, but all rights, suits, claims, demands, con-
tracts or obligations existing and pending at the time of the
passage of this Act shall remain in full force and effect; and
the Burgess and Councilmen of Myersville now in office under
the provisions and sections of chapter 94 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland, passed in the year 1904, shall
remain in office with full authority to assert, prosecute and
defend all such pending rights, suits, claims, demands, con-
tracts or obligations, and to exercise all the powers and duties
of Burgess and Councilmen under the provisions of said Act
and under the provisions of this Act, until their successors
are elected and qualified as hereinbefore provided, and with,
full power to collect all taxes heretofore assessed and levied
within the said taxable limits of said corporation and remain-
ing unpaid at the time of the passage of this Act.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That sections twelve and fifteen
of chapter 94 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland,
passed in the year 1904, entitled "An Act to incorporate the
