men. They shall also appoint a treasurer and assign his (Jo-
ties and allow him such compensation as they shall deem
proper, not to exceed three dollars per annum. The treasurer
shall receive and disburse, on the order of the Burgess, all
moneys collected under any of the ordinances of the corpora-
tion, and shall give bond to the Burgess and Council of Myers-
ville, with such security as they shall require, and in such
sum as they shall deem adequate, not less than five hundred
dollars ($500). He shall report annually to the Burgess and
Councilmen, and as often as required by them, the financial
condition of the town, with an account of all money received
and expended, with the proper vouchers, which said account
shall at all times be open for the inspection of any voters
in said corporation, as may be published in a county news-
paper. The treasurer shall collect all taxes levied by the Bur-
gess and Councilmen, and shall have the same powers to dis-
train and sell therefor as collectors of county taxes. The
secretary shall enter in a book to be kept by him for that pur-
pose, all ordinances passed by the Burgess and Council, which
ordinances shall be signed by the Burgess and attested by the
secretary, and which book shall be open at all times for public
inspection, and accessible to the Burgess, and copies of all
ordinances signed and attested as aforesaid shall be put up
in the most public places, or printed in any newspaper pub-
lished in said town in order that the same may be generally
made known.

9. The Burgess and Councilmen may enact ordinances for the
following purposes, to wit: To open new streets and close,
straighten, widen and .grade streets; to grade, level and repair
sidewalks; construct causeways; may adopt and provide effi-
cient system of drainage to maintain its cleanliness and pre-
serve the health of the town; to suppress and remove all nui-
sances and obstructions; to inspect all stables, pens, fac-
tories and other places detrimental to health; to regulate and
keep in repair streets, lanes and alleys; to restrain and pro-
hibit gaming; to provide for licensing theatrical or other public
exhibitions or amusements within the town; for the prevention
and extinguishing of fires and to purchase and keep in repair
and preservation a fire engine and apparatus, and to provide
for the establishment and maintenance of fire and water de-
partments; to license or tax dogs within the corporate limits
of Myersville; to suppress drunkenness, vice and immorality;
to provide for the maintenance of order and quiet around
and upon church property; to punish by fines breaches of
the peace, and preserve the peace, order and quiet of the town;
to assess the property within said taxable limits, and to levy
