712 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

River, between Havre de Grace and Perryville; and to pro-
vide for the conversion of the old bridge into a bridge for
vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Whereas by the fourth section of chapter 116 of the Acts of
the General Assembly of Maryland of 1904, as amended by chap-
ter 710 of the Acts of the said General Assembly of 1906, the
Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington Railroad Company is
required to remove its old bridge over the Susquehanna river,
between Havre de Grace, in Harford county, and Perryville, in
Cecil county, in the State of Maryland; and

Whereas it is eminently desirable, for the accommodation of
the public, that the said old bridge shall be converted into and
be preserved and maintained as a bridge for vehicular and
pedestrian traffic, and certain representative citizens of the said
counties of Harford and Cecil, having perfected a plan for ac-
quiring the said bridge, and the conversion and utilization of
the same to and for such purposes, and having made an ar-
rangement with the said Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washing-
ton Railroad Company for the acquisition thereof for such pur-
poses on very favorable and satisfactory terms and conditions,
are desirous of obtaining the legislation necessary for consum-
mating the said arrangement; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the maintenance and preservation of the old bridge
of the Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington Railroad Com-
pany over the Susquehanna river, between Havre de Grace and
Perryville, as a bridge for the accommodation of vehicular and
pedestrian traffic, be and the same are hereby expressly author-
ized and the said railroad company is hereby authorized
to transfer and convey the same, in conformity with the ar-
rangement mentioned in the preamble to this Act, unto such
person or persons, or such corporation as shall, in accordance
with the arrangement mentioned in said preamble, be desig-
nated to acquire and become possessed of the same for said pur-
poses, and in the event that the arrangement contemplated by
this Act shall not.be consummated, then and in that event the
time for the removal of the said bridge shall be and is hereby
extended for the period of one year from the passage of this
Act.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That when the said bridge
shall be by the said Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington
Railroad Company put in suitable condition for use as a bridge
for vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and shall have been by the
said company transferred and conveyed as authorized by the
preceding section, that therefrom and thereafter the said rail-
