678 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

County Commissioners of said county at the hearing of all ap-
plications for the opening or altering of the public roads.

SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That until the first election for
Road Commissioners as herein provided for and the qualifica-
tion of the officers then elected, Benjamin Parran, Reuben
Bowen and Charles L. Chaney, be and they are hereby ap-
pointed a Board of Road Commissioners of Calvert county,
with power and authority to do and perform all Acts and
things that said Road Commissioners to be elected as herein
provided for are authorized and empowered by this Act to do
and perform. Any vacancy in said board shall be filled by the
Governor of Maryland, and the appointees shall hold office until
the next general election as herein provided.

SEC. 16. And be it enacted, That all Acts inconsistent with
this Act be and the same are hereby repealed, except, however,
that nothing herein is intended to repeal or conflict with chap-
ter 225, Acts 1904, commonly known as the Shoemaker Act, or
any legislation that may be enacted at the present session of the
Legislature, having for its object the improvement of the high-
ways of the State under State supervision.

SEC. 17. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

ARTICLE VI.

CAROLINE COUNTY.

CHAPTER 526.

AN ACT to repeal chapter 299 of Acts of 1896, the same being
"An Act to authorize and empower the judges of the second
judicial circuit of the State to employ a stenographer, and to
provide for the salary of the same," and to re-enact the same
with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That chapter 299 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
Maryland, passed at the session of 1896, entitled "An Act to
authorize and empower the judges of the second judicial circuit
of the State to employ a stenographer, and to provide for the
salary of the same," be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted with amendments, so as to read as follows:
