person having a claim for the hire of horses, oxen, wagons,
carts, plows, or for any implement hired by him to a super-
visor of the roads, may present the same to the said Board of
Road Commissioners and make affidavit before one of said
Board of Commissioners as to the correctness of said account,
and if the said board shall be satisfied that the same is proper
to be paid, they shall give to said claimant an order, signed as
aforesaid, on the treasurer of the county for the sum of money
said Commissioners shall find to be due to said claimant.
SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners at
their annual meeting for levying county taxes shall levy on the
assessable property of the county such sums of money as said
Board of Road Commissioners shall notify them in writing will
be required for keeping in repair the public roads of the county
for one year, not, however, to exceed the sum of four thousand
dollars; and it shall be the duty of the said Board of Road
Commissioners to give the said notice to the said County Com-
missioners before the meeting of said County Commissioners to
make the annual levy, and the said Road Commissioners shall
keep an account, showing the number, date and the amount of
each order drawn by the Board of Road Commissioners on the
treasurer of the county as aforesaid, and in the annual state-
ment of the expenses of the county published each year by the
County Commissioners in pursuance to the Act of eighteen hun-
dred and seventy-four, chapter one hundred and two, it shall be
made to clearly appear what sums of money have been ex-
pended in the public roads of said county, and all orders
drawn on the treasurer of the county by the said Board of Road
Commissioners shall be paid when presented out of any
moneys that he may have in hand belonging to the county, and
the said Road Commissioners shall furnish the County Com-
missioners at least once a year and oftener if required by said
County Commissioners, an account showing the number, date
and amount of each order and to whom drawn, and how and to
whom all moneys received by them has been expended.
SEC. 9. And be it enacted. That it shall be the duty of the
Road Commissioners to inquire into the conditions of the public
roads in the county, to receive and hear complaints in refer-
ence thereto, and once in every month, whilst the work on the
said roads is being done, to visit and personally inspect the
work done by the said supervisors.
SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the said Road Commission-
ers shall each receive from the County Commissioners the sum
of two dollars for each day he is engaged in performing the
duties of his office.
