gaged, and if, for any reason, the said supervisor is compelled to
be absent during the time the said laborers are engaged in
work on the roads, in the monthly statement to be submitted to
the Board of Road Commissioners as aforesaid, he shall state
the number of hours he was so absent, with the reason for such
absence, and if he shall fail to keep and produce at said
monthly meeting an account, as above provided for, or if any
account so produced shall contain any false statement, or if
said supervisor shall fail to perform all the duties herein re-
quired of him to the satisfaction of said Board of Road Com-
missioners he shall be at once dismissed from his position by
said board and forfeit all pay then due him for his services as
road supervisor.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the work on said roads shall
be done at such times and in such manner as said Road Com-
missioners shall direct.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the said supervisors shall
each have the power to hire such horses, oxen, wagons, carts,
plows and other implements necessary for the successful per-
formance of his duties herein required of him as supervisor, and
at each monthly meeting of said Board of Road Commissioners
he shall submit to said board a statement showing everything
hired by him during the preceding month, from whom the same
was hired and the sum agreed to be paid for the hire thereof;
but nothing in this section shall authorize the said supervisor
to hire anything whatever contrary ,to the advice and order of
the said Road Commissioners.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the said Board of Road Com-
missioners shall meet at their office in Prince Frederick on the
second Tuesday of every month in each year, at which meetings
they shall receive and carefully examine the accounts and state-
ment made by the said supervisors as hereinbefore provided for,
and from said accounts compute the number of days each
laborer has been employed on the public roads in said county
and number of days the said supervisor has been engaged
therein, allowing in such computations ten hours of active work
to constitute one day, and twenty-six days to constitute one
month, and each laborer shall be paid a sum not exceeding
thirty-two dollars and fifty cents a month, and each supervisor
a sum not exceeding fifty-two dollars per month, and the said
Board of Road Commissioners shall deliver to said supervisor
and each laborer, signed by at least two members of the Board
of Road Commissioners, an order on the treasurer of the county
for the sum of money which may be found to be due to each of
them as aforesaid and at each of said monthly meetings, any
