borrow money on the credit of the county for the erection of
same, to issue bonds therefor and to levy on the assessable
property in Calvert county an annual tax sufficient to pay
said bonds and interest when the same becomes due, also for
the appointment of a commission to carry out the provisions
of this Act.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Calvert county be and
they are hereby authorized and directed to build a jail at Prince
Frederick, and in order to provide the necesssary funds for the
erection of the same and the expenses incident thereto, the
County Commissioners be and they are hereby authorized to
borrow money on the credit of the county an amount not to
exceed the sum of thirty-five hundred dollars, and to issue
bonds therefor under the corporate seal of said County Com-
missioners, to be signed by the president of the board of County
Commissioners countersigned by the clerk thereof; in sums not
less than one hundred dollars and not more than five hundred
dollars bearing interest from date of issue thereof at a rate of
five per centum per annum. And said bonds shall have writ-
ten or printed on them a distinct reference to the Act authoriz-
ing the issue of same.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That said bonds shall be redeem-
able as follows, that is to say: Five hundred dollars thereof in
six years from the date of their issue, and thereafter annually
five hundred dollars each and every year until the whole
amount so issued shall have been fully paid, provided that
nothing in this Act shall prevent the County Commissioners
from paying said bonds at an earlier date if the finances of the
county shall justify the same; said bonds shall be sold after due
advertisement by the County Commissioners; provided, how-
ever, that none of said bonds shall be sold for less than par
value.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
shall cause to be levied and collected from the assessable prop-
erty in Calvert county, a tax annually, which shall be sufficient
to pay the interest on said bonds and to redeem said bonds as
they severally mature. And the said tax shall be collected in
like manner as other taxes levied in said county are collected,
and when collected shall be applied to the payment of said
bonds as they mature and the interest thereon annually.
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That John Parran, George W.
Dowell, J. Briscoe Bunting, Young D. Hance and Dr. T. M.
Chaney, of Calvert county, State of Maryland, be and they are
hereby constituted a building committee for the purpose of hav-
