CHAPTER 557.
AN ACT to authorize and require the County Commissioners
of Baltimore county to make a special levy of not more than
twenty cents on each one hundred dollars of the assessable
real estate in the village of Lansdowne, Baltimore county,
for the purpose of improving the roads in said village, if
twenty or more persons residing in said village and owning
taxable real estate in said village shall petition therefor.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Board of County Commissioners of Baltimore
county, at the time of the annual tax levy for this year, and
each succeeding year, are hereby authorized, directed and re-
quired to make a special annual levy of such amount as may
be mentioned in the petition hereinafter referred to, on each
one hundred dollars of the whole assessable real estate in the
village of Lansdowne, in Baltimore county, to be collected as
other county taxes in said county are collected and paid over
by the said County Commissioners to the treasurer of the
Lansdowne Improvement Association of Baltimore County, to
be used by said association exclusively for the improvement of
the roads and sidewalks of said village of Lansdowne; provided,
twenty or more persons residing in said village and owning
such taxable real estate in said village shall, prior to each
annual levy, petition the said County Commissioners asking
such special levy to be made, and in said petition mentioning
the amount desired to be specially levied, provided the same
shall not exceed the sum of twenty cents on each hundred dol-
lars of assessable property as aforesaid; provided, however,
that all taxes collected under the provisions of this Act and
turned over to the treasurer of said Lansdowne Improvement
Association of Baltimore County shall be expended by the road
supervisor of the 13th election district of Baltimore county
under the direction of two members of the Lansdowne Improve-
ment Association of Baltimore County, to be appointed by said
association in such manner as may be provided by its con-
stitution and by-laws.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That for the purposes of
this Act the metes and bounds of the village of Lansdowne
shall be deemed and taken to be as follows: Being bounded on
the west by the Hammond's Ferry road, on the north by a road
known as the Mine Bank road, said to be twenty feet wide,
extending from the Hammond Ferry road to the property of
the Whittaker estate; on the east by the property of the Whit-
taker estate, Mt. Zion's cemetery and Gitting's estate, and on
