that nothing in this Act shall be taken to regulate the pay of
any special officer or station house keeper now or hereafter
to be appointed by the said County Commissioners of Balti-
more county, but their pay shall be entirely in the discretion
of said County Commissioners.
177. The County Commissioners shall levy annually a suffi-
cient sum, not exceeding thirty-seven thousand five hundred
dollars, upon the taxable property in Baltimore county, to pay
said policemen, and for such other necessary and proper ex-
penses as in their judgment may be required to promote the
efficiency, discipline and usefulness of such police force.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That this Act shall take effect
from June 1, 1908.

CHAPTER 236.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments section 195 of
article 3 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Baltimore County," sub-title "Roads," as amended by chap-
ter 465 of the Acts of 1904.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That section 195 of article 3 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title "Baltimore County," sub-title "Roads,"
as amended by chapter 465 of the Acts of 1904, be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
195. The Baltimore County Roads Engineer shall receive a
salary of two thousand dollars annually, in monthly instal-
ments, and five hundred dollars, or so much thereof as may be
necessary to meet his traveling expenses, and the expenses in-
curred in the discharge of his duties, and also such further
allowance, not exceeding the sum of twelve hundred dollars
per year, for such professional and clerical assistance as the
Highways Commission may find requisite and necessary. Such
sums to be paid out of the general road and bridge fund of the
county.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on May 1, 1908.
