PRIVATE ACTS. 1479

State, and subsequently, on the twenty-sixth day of February,
1907, said original charter was duly amended and the capital
stock of said corporation was duly increased from $125.000 to
$150.000; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the charter of The Proctor Slate Company of Har-
ford County, a corporation duly organized under the General
Laws of this State, be and the same is hereby amended, and the
powers of said company enlarged as hereinafter set forth, and
hereafter said slate company shall be called and known as
"The Proctor Slate Company" instead of "The Proctor Slate
Company of Harford County."

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be lawful for said
slate company to subscribe to, hold and own any number of
shares which it may deem wise and prudent of the capital
stock of any other corporation organized for the purpose of
selling and marketing slate.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 8, 1908.

CHAPTER 710.

AX ACT to refund to Sharp Lewis Merriman four hundred
dollars, being the amount paid by said Sharp Lewis Merri-
man to the sheriff of Washington county, when said Merri-
inan forfeited his recognizance.

Whereas a certain Sharp Lewis Merriman was arrested at
Hagerstown, in Washington county, on or about the twenty-
fifth day of May, 1905, upon the charge of wife desertion and
abandonment, and at a hearing before C. E. Johnson, Esq., a
justice of the peace of said county, he deposited the sum of
four hundred dollars as surety to appear and answer said
charge at the hearing of said cause, but did not appear at said
time because, prior to said hearing, the said husband and wife
had entered upon an amicable arrangement by article of
separation, with proper security, for her maintenance and
support; and

Whereas said recognizance afterward, to wit, on or about
the twenty-sixth day of May, 1905, was forfeited and the pen-
alty thereof was forfeited, paid to the sheriff of Washington
county; and

Whereas the ends of justice have been subserved and said
Sharp Lewis Merriman is now supporting and maintaining
