PRIVATE ACTS. 1351

Whereas certain members of the Fifth Regiment of Mary-
land Infantry Volunteers presented claims for their expenses
by them on account of illness contracted by them while in
the service of the United States during the war with Spain;
and

Whereas said claims were not paid by the Adjutant General
of Maryland because the funds out of which said claims could
have been paid had been turned back into the Treasury of the
State before said claims had been received by him; and

Whereas by an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland,
passed at the January session, 1902, chapter 526, the sum of
fifteen hundred dollars was appropriated for the payment of
such claims by the Adjutant General of Maryland; and

Whereas V. Murray Sulivane, private of Company E, Fifth
Regiment of Maryland Infantry Volunteers, was one of said
claimants on account of illness contracted in said service, but
when he applied for payment out of said fund for the expenses
of medicines and medical attendance for about six weeks after
he had been invalided home upon the return of his said regi-
ment to Maryland, was informed by the Adjutant General that
the said fund had been exhausted, and was by that officer
referred to the Legislature of Maryland for relief in the prem-
ises.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Comptroller draw his warrant on the Treasurer
for the sum of one hundred dollars, payable to the said V.
Murray Sulivane, to cover said expenses so incurred by him,
and in full settlement thereof.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 647.

AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to be expended by the
Adjutant General of Maryland in payment of the claim of
William S. Peed, a member of the Fifth Regiment United
States Volunteer Infantry in the war with Spain, for ex-
penses of his illness in such service.

Whereas William S. Peed, a member of the Fifth Regiment
United States Volunteer Infantry, presented a claim for his
expenses incurred by him on account of illness contracted by
him while in the service of the United States to the Adjutant
General of Maryland ; and
