1316 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

tion, in the sum of not less than five nor more than twenty
dollars, to be recovered before any justice of the peace either
in Harford or Cecil counties. Said company shall have the
right to acquire property by purchase for the necessary ap-
proaches to said bridge from the public highways in Cecil
and Harford counties, and in the event that said company
cannot acquire the necessary land for the purpose of approaches
aforesaid by purchase, then said company shall have the right
to condemn the necessary lands for the approaches aforesaid,
as provided by article 23 of the Code of Public General Laws.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 547.

AN ACT to amend the charter of the Washington, Spa Spring
and Gretta Railroad Company of Prince George's County, a
corporation incorporated under the provisions of article 23
of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, to confirm
said charter and grant additional powers to said corporation.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Washington, Spa Spring and Gretta Railroad
Company, a corporation founded under the provisions of arti-
cle 23 of the Code of Public General Laws of this State, title
"Corporations," sub-title "Railroad Companies," in addition
to the powers possessed by it under its certificate of incorpora-
tion, and in no wise limiting the same, but hereby expressly
confirming and making valid said articles of incorporation
and the acts of said railroad company shall have the further
powers following,to wit: The said Washington, Spa Spring and
Gretta Railroad shall have power to lay down, construct and
operate a railroad from Washington city, through Prince
George's county, by way of Bladensburg and Berwin Heights,
to the town of Laurel in said county, with lateral branches,
and to operate and run its cars and rolling stock of every kind
by electricity or other motive power.

SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That said Washington, Spa
Spring and Gretta Railroad shall also have the power to pur-
chase, acquire, hold, sell or lease, dispose of and convey real
or leasehold property, and the right to lay its tracks along,
upon and over any bridge, street, avenue or public highway,
first obtaining the permission of proper authorities; and said
company, its lessees or assigns, be and are hereby authorized
and empowered to haul passengers, packages, parcels and
