the regular or at a special election shall be made in the same
manner as is hereinbefore provided for in the election of
Mayor and Council, and if a majority of the votes cast shall
be against the issuing of water and light bonds, then and in
that case no bonds shall be issued, but if the majority of the
votes cast shall be for the issuing of water, and light bonds, then
the Mayor and Council shall issue said bonds to the amount of
$25,000.00 or less as hereafter provided; and if a majority of
the votes cast shall be against the issuing of water bonds, then
and in that case no bonds shall be issued, but if a majority
of the votes cast shall be for the issuing of water bonds, then
the said Mayor and Council shall issue the said bonds to the
amount of $25,000.00 or less, as hereafter provided. The Mayor
and Council may, in their discretion, order said vote to be
taken, either together on the question of the bond issue for a
water supply or lighting plant, or for a water supply or light-
ing plant alone, but nothing herein contained shall be construed
as a power to the said Mayor and Council to order a vote to be
taken on all of said questions together, it being the intention
hereof to authorize the vote only upon the question of a water
supply and lighting plant or either of them separately.

48o. If the decision by said election shall be for the issuing
of water and light bonds or for water bonds or for light bonds,
the Mayor and Council of Berlin are hereby authorized and
directed to borrow on the credit of the town of Berlin an
amount not exceeding the sum of $25,000.00, and to issue cou-
pon bonds therefor in sums of not less than one hundred dol-
lars and not more than five hundred dollars each, to be signed
by the Mayor of said town and to be countersigned by the sec-
retary and treasurer thereof, with the seal of the said town
attached, and to be registered by said secretary and treasurer
in a separate book kept for that purpose; said bonds shall
bear interest at the rate of five per cent, per annum, payable
semi-annually, on the first day of January and July in each and
every year until the said bonds are paid; said bonds shall be
forever exempt from all taxation whatsoever except for State
purposes, and shall have printed on them a distinct reference to
the Act and the election directing their issue.

48p. Said bonds shall be issued in series from one to fifty
inclusive, according to the aggregate amount issued, each series
consisting of five hundred dollars of said amount, and shall be
redeemable as follows: Five hundred dollars thereof five years
from the date of their issue and thereafter annually on the
first day of July in each and every year, five hundred dollars
thereof, until the whole amount so issued shall have been paid,
and said bonds shall be sold at public or private .sale, and in
