SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly oi
Maryland, That the Governor be and he is hereby authorized,
empowered and directed to appoint one additional justice oi
the peace for the ninth election district of Garrett county, and
also one additional justice of the peace for the fourteenth elec-
tion district of Garrett county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 342.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 48
of Article 35 of the Code of Public General Laws, title
"Evidence," sub-title "Public Statutes," as said section was
enacted by Chapter 89 of the Acts of 1845, and by Chapter
38 of the Acts of 1849.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That section 48 of Article 35 of the Code of Public

General Laws, title "Evidence," sub-title "Public Statutes," as
said section was enacted by chapter 89 of the Acts of 1845,
and by chapter 38 of the Acts of 1849, be and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments, so as to read
as follows :
48. The public or private statutes of the United States, or

of any State or Territory of the United States, or of the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, may be read in
evidence from any printed volume purporting to contain the
Statutes of the said United States, State or Territory, or the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland ; and the said
printed volume shall in all cases be received as evidence oi
said statutes without any further authentication or proof thereof.
