LAWS OF MARYLAND.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

Levy taxes.

land, That the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland be
and they are hereby empowered to levy for the years eighteen
hundred and ninety-eight and eighteen hundred and ninety-
nine, at the time of making the annual levy for general pur-
poses in said city, upon all the taxable property therein, a sum
not to exceed five hundred dollars in each of said years, said
sum or sums, or so much thereof as may be found necessary,
to be levied to and expended by and under the direction of the
Board of Trade of Cumberland, Maryland, for the establish-
ment of manufacturing enterprises and the general promotion
of the business interests of said city.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
Approved April 7, 1898.

CHAPTER 340.
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 56 of the Code of
Public General Laws, title "Licenses," .to follow section 89,
and to be designated as Sub-section 89.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-

Article 56 of the Code of Public General Laws, title
"Licenses," to follow section 89, and to be designated as sub-
section 89, and to read as follows :
SUB-SEC. 89. Any person who shall have taken out a license as

provided by the provisions of this Article, or under any other
law, general or local, for the sale of goods, wares and merchan-
dise, or for the sale of spirituous or fermented liquors or lager
beer, shall be permitted to sell cigars, and non-alcoholic drinks
without procuring any other license.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage, and that all laws or parts of laws
inconsistent with the provisions of this Act, be and the same
are hereby repealed.

CHAPTER 341.
AN ACT to authorize the Governor to appoint additional
Justice of the Peace for the Ninth Election District, and
also an additional Justice of the Peace for the Fourteenth
Election District of Garrett County.
