the School Commissioners in said senatorial district, by and
with the advice and consent of the senator in their respective
senatorial districts, after a competitive examination of the can-
didates ; provided, that the said appointment shall not be held
by the same student for more than four years, and that each
student receiving such appointment shall give bond to the
State of Maryland for such amount with such security as may
be approved by the president of said college, that she will
teach school within the State for not less two years after leav-
ing college.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the provisions heretofore
made by law for free scholarships in said college shall here-
after apply to male students only.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 107.
AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to aid the Peninsula
General Hospital of Salisbury, Maryland.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sum of twelve hundred dollars for the fiscal
year eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, and the sum of twelve
hundred dollars for the fiscal year eighteen hundred and ninety-

nine, be and the same is hereby appropriated to the Peninsula
General Hospital of Salisbury, Maryland, and that the Treas-
urer of the State be and is, hereby directed, on the warrant of
the Comptroller, to pay to the treasurer of the said Peninsula
General Hospital the said sum of twelve hundred dollars for
each of the years aforesaid ; provided, no part of said appro-
priation shall be used for any other purpose than the current
expenses of said hospital in the support and maintenance of
the free county patients therein ; and the managers of said
hospital shall make a full report of the operations of said hos-
pital, the receipts and expenditures, to the Governor annually
on or before the first day of January.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the eaid Peninsula General
Hospital of Salisbury, Maryland, in consideration of money
hereinafter appropriated, shall receive from the State of Mary-
land four patients at a time, for each year, to be maintained
