SECTION h Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sanction and consent of the Genera] Assembly
of Maryland be and the same are hereby given and declared
to the bequest by Mrs. Emily G. Stewart, deceased, late of
Howard county, of tive hundred dollars to the Vestry of St.
John's Protestant Episcopal Church in Howard County, Mary-
land.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 98.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section one
hundred and twenty-three of Article two of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Anne Arundel County," sub-title
"County Commissioners," . as the same was re-enacted by
Chapter four hundred and seventy-two of the Acts of
eighteen hundred and ninety-four.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Maryland, That section one hundred and twenty-three of
Article two of the Code of Public Local Laws, title "Anne
Arundel County," sub title "County Commissioners," be and the
same hereby is repealed and re-enacted with amendments, so as
to read as follows :

123. The County Commissioners shall, at the usual time of
making the levy upon the taxable property of said county,
for county and State purposes, make such additional rate of

levy as is now or may hereafter be fixed by law, for the sup
port of the public schools of said county, and may, in their
discretion, levy such additional rate as they may deem neces-
sary, to promote the efficiency of the said schools ; such addi-
tional levy for school purposes not to exceed, however, twenty-
five cents on the hundred dollars ; which levy shall be free and
clear from all discounts, insolvencies, commissions or other
deductions of any and every kind whatsoever ; the school tax,
so fixed by law and levied in the discretion of said commis-
sioners, shall be made separate from the levy for other county
and State purposes, and shall constitute a separate fund, and
shall not be used for any other purpose but that for which it
was levied ; and said school taxes shall be paid directly to the
school board of said county by the treasurer of said county.
