books similar to those now in nse, and the names of the voters
shall be transcribed therein, or new lists made, or an entire
new registration, as determined by an order of the Council.

shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the
general election law of Maryland so far as the same may be
applicable to municipal elections to be held therein. The
official ballots shall be furnished by the Council, nominations
made by the convention of a party shall be certified to the
clerk of the Council ten days before the election, and the names
of independent candidates for either Mayor or Councilmen, or
both, shall be placed upon the official ballot if the petition for
that purpose be signed by fifteen voters for Mayor or five voters
for Councilmen, and filed with the said clerk six days before
the day of election. But the signers of these petitions must
be qualified to vote for the person whose name is presented for
a place on the official ballot, and at least one of them shall
make oath that he is informed and verily believes all the signers
thereof intend so to do, which oath shall be appended to the
petition. Three glass ballot boxes shall be provided, similar to
those now used at all general elections in this State. The polls
for the town shall be held at one place, the ballot boxes being
numbered to correspond with the number of the respective
wards. There shall be four judges of election to be appointed
by the Council, and three clerks, one for each ward, appointed
in like manner,whose compensation shall be fixed by the Council.
The clerks shall enter the names and residences of the voters for
the respective wards as the ballots are delivered to them respec-
tively. The ballots shall be obtained by the voters from the
judges of election, and district ballots shall be provided for each
ward of the town, equal in number to two ballots for each regis-
tered voter. The council shall also provide booths or compart-
ments for secret voting, similar to those provided under the
general election law of this State, and may by ordinance, pre-
vide for other details not herein enumerated, the purpose being
to have the election law of the town conform as nearly as prac-
ticable to the general election law of the State, known as the
Australian ballot system.
