CHAPTER 444.
AN ACT to authorize the Major and City Council of Bal-
timore to issue the stock of said corporation to an amount not
exceeding four million and five hundred thousand dollars for
paving streets, constructing surface water sewers, supplying
school buildings, and providing funds for the construction of
a general sewerage system for the city of Baltimore.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore be and
they are hereby authorized to issue the stock of the city of
Baltimore to an amount not exceeding four million and five

hundred thousand dollars, the proceeds of said stock to be
used as follows : The proceeds of one million five hundred
thousand dollars of said stock shall be used for paving the
streets of the city of Baltimore ; the proceeds of one million
dollars of said stock shall be used for supplying school houses
for the public schools of the city of Baltimore; the proceeds
of five hundred thousand dollars of said stock shall be used
for the purpose of constructing surface water sewers for the
city of Baltimore; the proceeds of one million five hundred
thousand dollars shall be used for the purpose of beginning
the construction of a general sewerage system for the city of
Baltimore.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said stock shall
be in such amounts, payable at such time or times, and shall
bear such rate of interest as the said Mayor and City Council of

Baltimore shall provide by ordinance, but the said stock shall
not be issued unless an ordinance authorizing the issue of said
stock which the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore is
hereby authorized to enact, shall be approved by a majority of
the votes cast at the time and place to be appointed by said
ordinance in the provision for submitting the same to the legal
voters of said city, as required by section seven, Article eleven,
of the Constitution of Maryland.

Effective.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
