to compel tramps and vagrants convicted of violating any of
each rules, regulations or ordinances, to labor upon the roads,
highways or streets of said county, or the cities or towns there-
of, or to labor for the improvement of the same.
268 B. The County Commissioners shall have power to agree

with the cities or towns mentioned in the preceding section,
upon terms whereby the tramps or vagrants con victed of violat-
ing any municipal ordinance in case the facilities of such city
or town are not adequate, may be held at the county jail or
almshouse, for the purpose of performing the labor or work
authorized by the preceding section and required by their
respective convictions or sentences.

268 C. The tramps or vagrants referred to in the two pre-
ceding sections are such persons as are called tramps in section
275 of Article 27 of the Code of Public General Laws of this
State.

the power given in this sub-title, and upon conviction for
violating the same, to pass such sentences as may be right.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect

CHAPTER 392.
AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to pay the claim of
William J. C. Dulany Company for stationery furnished
the State Library, Court of Appeals and Legislative Depart-
ment of the State of Maryland, from February 1, 1898, to
March 23, 1898, inclusive.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Comptroller be and he is hereby directed to
draw his warrant upon the Treasurer in favor of William J.

C. Dulany Company for the sum of eleven hundred and
seventy-nine and forty-three one-hundredth dollars, ($1,179.43)
for stationery furnished the State Library, Court of Appeals
and Legislative Department of the State of Maryland, from
February 1, 1898, to March 23, 1898, inclusive.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
