No. 4.

Joint resolution authorizing the commissioner
of the land office to use and occupy the pres-
ent or old library room in the state house as a
museum.

WHEREAS there is in the land office a consid-
erable and valuable collection of objects illustra-

ting the natural history and agricultural and
mineral resources of Maryland, which is now
cramped and practically useless from want of
room for its exhibition ; and, whereas, the annex
to the state house affords room far beyond the
needs of the state library for many years to
come ; therefore —
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,

To use and
occupy.

That the commissioner of the land office be and
he is hereby authorized to use and occupy the
present or old library room in the state house as
a museum, and to transfer thereto for classifica-
tion and exhibition, the objects now in the land
office.

WHEREAS it is complained that the present

large number of prisoners confined therein ; and,
whereas, it is claimed by men competent to judge
that the present site could be sold for a sum of
money more than sufficient to procure a large
tract of land in some central location in the
state, and for the erection thereon of modern
buildings of suitable size, and to pay over a
large balance into the state treasury ; therefore —
