lodges ; for the management and disposition of
its property, and to provide for all other matters
that may be regulated by by-laws, and may at
all times repeal, amend or annul the same ; and
said corporation is hereby authorized to do every
other act or thing, and have and exercise all
such rights and privileges not inconsistent with
law, as a corporation or body politic may and
lawfully execute, and which may be necessary
or proper to promote the objects, designs and
purposes for which the corporation hereby
formed is created.
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That it shall be

lawful for the said corporation to hold any of its
meetings in any of the states mentioned in the
first section of this act, or in the District of
Columbia, or in any other state to which the
jurisdiction of said grand lodge may be here-
after extended.
SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the object of
said corporation is hereby declared to be social,

moral and intellectual development and eleva-
tion of Israelites, and of uniting them in the
promotion of their highest interests and those of
humanity ; to inculcate the purest principles of
philanthropy and honor and patriotism ; to sup-
port science and arts ; to alleviate the wants of
the poor and needy ; to visit and attend the sick ;
to come to the rescue of victims of persecution,
and to provide for, protect and assist the widow
and orphan.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the citizens of the town of
Barnesville, in Montgomery county, be and they
are hereby created a body corporate, by the name
