in his district ; and he is hereby required to com-
mence the ordinary repairs of said public roads
and bridges in the month of May, and to com-
plete the same by the first day of October in
each and every year.
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That each of the

said supervisors is hereby required to keep an
accurate account of the number of days he was
engaged on the repairs of said roads and bridges
in his road district as supervisor ; the number
of hands worked each day, and the number of
days labor performed by each hand ; the num-
ber of horses, wagons, carts and plows used,
and the number of days they were in use, and
report the same, under oath, to the county com-
missioners.
SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That if any super-

visor appointed under the provisions of this act
shall render to the county commissioners a false
statement of accounts, or shall be guilty of wil-
ful neglect of duty, he shall be liable to punish-
ment and indictment by the grand jury ; and if
convicted in the circuit court for said county
shall be fined any sum. in the discretion of the
court, not exceeding fifty dollars for each
offence.
SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the county

scoops, &c.
|
commissioners are hereby authorized to pur-
chase for the use of the county road scoops,
hoes, shovels and picks for the purpose of re-
pairing said roads and bridges, to be distributed
with the several supervisors, who shall take
care of them, and pass them to their successors
when called for.
SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the county

pervision.

commissioners shall have general supervision
over the public roads of the county, and it shall
be their duty to see that they are kept in good
repair ; and they are hereby empowered to sus-
pend or dismiss any road supervisor for neglect
of duty.
SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the county

Per diem al-
lowed.
|
commissioners are hereby authorized to deter-
mine the per diem to be allowed to the several
supervisors, hands, horses, wagons, carts and
plows, and determine the number of hours that
shall constitute a day's work, and cause the
|
|
|
