SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

Chapter 32.
AN ACT to incorporate Saint Joseph's Semin-
ary, of Baltimore city.
WHEREAS, James, Cardinal Gibbons, Edward
McColgan, John R. Slattery, Alfred B. Leeson

Preamble.
|
and John H. Greene have formed themselves
into a society for religious, charitable and edu-
cational purposes, and are about to purchase
certain buildings for a seminary, to be known
as "Saint Joseph's Seminary, of Baltimore
city," for the residence of themselves and their
assistants, and other buildings as places of
divine worship and for school purposes ; and
propose, when their means shall permit, to ex-
tend their operations by the purchase or erec-
tion of other life buildings in the State of
Maryland and elsewhere, the object of the so-
ciety being the education of young men for the
Roman Catholic priesthood ; and whereas, for
the better carrying out and attainment of the
purposes aforementioned, they have prayed an
act of incorporation ; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the said James, Car-
dinal Gibbons, Edward McColgan, John R.
Slattery, Alfred B. Leeson and John H. Greene,

Constituted a
body politic.

and their successors, be and are hereby consti-
tuted a body politic, or corporate, by the name
of "Saint Joseph's Seminary, of Baltimore
City," and by that name shall have perpetual
succession, with full power and authority to
provide for the admission and rejection of mem-
bers, the right to sue and be sued, to contract
and be contracted with, and to implead and be
