SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-

sembly of Maryland, That the governor be and
he is hereby requested to instruct the attorney
general to enter his appearance and defend any
suits or actions which have been or may here-
after be instituted in the courts of the United
States, or state courts, against said Henry Lloyd,
J. Frank Turner, Stevenson Archer, Jacob H.

them, and he is hereby authorized, in his discre-
tion, to employ such additional counsel to assist
in defending said suits or actions as he may
think proper.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the comptrol-

curs, for such sum or sums in payment of any
verdict or finding which may be rendered against

Loker, or any of them, in any of the courts
aforesaid, and also for such costs, counsel fees
and expenses as may be incurred in the defences
of said suits or actions, when certified as proper
by the governor.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the sum of ten

be executed in or about any proceeding now or
hereafter pending against said Henry Lloyd, J.
Frank Turner, Stevenson Archer, Jacob H. Plow-
man and Jefferson D. Loker, in the performance
of their duties under the laws of this state, and
also relating to any appeals in said suits or
