LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Chapter 1 12.

AN ACT to provide for the defence and indem-
nity of Henry Lloyd, 3. Frank Turner, Steven-
son Archer, Jacob H. Plowman and Jefferson
D. Loker, who have been, or may be, sued in
courts of the United States, or of the State of
Maryland, for certain acts alleged to have been
done by them, or any of them, as officers of the
State of Maryland, in the enforcement of an
act of Assembly of Maryland, passed at Jan-
uary session, eighteen hundred and eighty-six,
chapter two hundred and ninety-six, entitled
"An act to repeal chapter five hundred and
eighteen of the acts of General Assembly of
Maryland, at January session of eighteen hun-
dred and eighty-four, being an act to repeal
article seventy-one of the Code of General
Laws, entitled 'Oysters,' " and re-enact the
same with amendments, and provide further
police regulations for the protection of oysters
in the waters of this state.

WHEREAS, by the provisions of said act of
eighteen hundred and eighty-six, chapter two

hundred and ninety-six, certain duties were im-
posed upon the board of public works, the com-
mander of state fishery force, and the officers un-
der him, for the alleged performance of which
duties a suit was instituted in the circuit court
of the United States for the District of Maryland,
against the said Henry Lloyd, J. Frank Turner,
Stevenson Archer, Jacob H. Plowman and Jef-
ferson D. Loker, who, as governor, comptroller
of the treasury and treasurer, respectively, con-
stituted the board of public works, and said Jacob
H. Plowman, commander of state fishery force,
and Jefferson D. Loker, deputy-commander of
the steamer Governor Thomas ; and,
WHEREAS it is the duty of the State of Mary-
land to protect its citizens in the performance of
duties imposed on them by state authority ;
