alty double the amount of the county taxes that
will be entrusted to him for collection, condi-
tioned for the true and faithful performance of
his duty as collector of county taxes, and each
bond shall have at least three good securities,
and each of said collectors' bonds shall be filed
in the office of the clerk of the circuit court, for
said county, a certified copy of which shall be
sufficient evidence against either of said col-
lectors.

SEC. 3. That the duties of said collectors shall
be to collect and pay over to the proper officers
all the state and county taxes levied in his col-
lection district, and to report to the county com-
missioners all new and missed property in his
district liable to taxation.

SEC. 4. That the compensation of said collec-
tors shall be fixed by the county commissioners
at the time of the appointment, and for all ser-
vices rendered shall not exceed five per centum
of the whole amount of taxes collected by him.
SEC. 5. That the county commissioners of Som-
erset county, on the first Tuesday in April in the

year eighteen hundred and eighty-nine, shall ap-
point a clerk to said commissioners, who shall
continue said clerk for the term of one year ;
that is, until the first Tuesday in April in the
year eighteen hundred and ninety, at which
time the said county commissioners shall elect
his successor for the term of two years as afore-
said, and so on every two years thereafter, which
said clerk shall be the treasurer of said board,
and, as such, shall receive all money that shall
be collected by the said collectors of county taxes
and all other money due the county, and shall

county commissioners ; and he shall open an ac-
count with each collector in a book or books kept
for that purpose, charging him with the whole
amount of county assessment in his district and
such other money as may be due therefrom to
the county, and crediting him by amounts paid
in, and he shall demand prompt payment by col-
lectors, make settlements with them, and report
such collectors as may be in default to the com-
missioners, provided that in settlements made
with collectors he shall not allow any delinquen-
