Chapter 119

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amend-
ments chapter three hundred and seventy-six
of the acts of eighteen hundred and eighty-
two, entitled " An act to repeal section one
hundred and ninety-four of article two of the
Code of Public Local Laws," title "Anne
Arundel County," sub-title " Sheriff," &c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-

bly of Maryland, That chapter three hundred
and seventy-six of the acts of eighteen hundred
and eighty-two, entitled "An act to repeal sec-
tion one hundred and ninety-four of article two
of the Code of Public Local Laws," title "Anne
Arundel County," sub-title "Sheriff," &c., be
and the same hereby is repealed and re-enacted
with amendments so as to read as follows :
SEC. 194. The sheriff of Anne Arundel coun-

ty shall be allowed for keeping and boarding
prisoners committed to the jail of paid county
such sum as the county commissioners shall de-
termine, not to exceed the sum of thirty cents a
day for each such prisoner, and the county com-
missioners shall have quarterly accountings with
him for the same upon presentation of his ac-
counts for the same with proper vouchers, and
shall levy for the same annually. He shall also

be entitled to receive from the county commis-
sioners, to be levied annually by them, for car-
rying and conveying each person under sentence
to the state penitentiary, or the house of correc-
tion, or to or from jails of any of the counties
of the state, and the jail or station-houses of the
city of Baltimore, or to or from any other place
of confinement, under the sentence, or final or-
der of any authorized judicial authority, the
sum of ten dollars for one person so carried and
conveyed, and for each additional person so
carried or conveyed at the same time, five dol-
lars, and no more, unless the county commis-
sioners shall be satisfied that extraordinary care
and caution had to be exercised, accompanied
with unusual danger, trouble or expense ; and
said compensation, so specified, shall be held to
