of their office, shall make oath before the mayor and council-
men that they will faithfully and impartially perform the
duties required of them as such officers to the best of their
skill, ability and judgment, without favor or partiality; and
the bailiff shall give bond, with security to be approved by
the mayor and councilmen, in such sum as they may designate.

Supervisor of
streets.

SEC. 157. There shall be one person to act as supervisor of
streets, lanes and alleys, elected on the first Monday in April,
1895, and every second year thereafter, by the qualified voters
of said town.

Repeal.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all acts and parts of acts
inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.

Effective.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 605.

AN ACT to provide for building a court house in Caroline
County, and to authorize, empower and direct the County
Commissioners of Caroline County to borrow money on the
credit of the County for the purpose of building the same
and constructing therein the necessary fire-proof vaults for
the preservation of the records and court papers of the Cir-
cuit Court and Orphans' Court, the County Commissioners
and the Board of School Commissioners, and to issue bonds
for the payment of the same, and to levy taxes on the
assessable property of said County to redeem such bonds
and to pay the interest thereon.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Joseph H. Bernard, Wm. E. Lord, George
M. Russian, Thomas L. Day, John W. Clark, Sr., Bayard
Nichols, Alex. Noble, Thomas M. Greene and Henry Irwin,
of Caroline county, be and are hereby appointed commis-
sioners, and they or a majority of them are hereby authorized,
empowered and directed to contract for and superintend the
building of a court house, with all the necessary offices, upon
