FRANK BROWN, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

submission of the question of said purchase to the qualified
voters of the town at some regular election for the election
of burgess, assistant burgess and three commissioners of said
town; such ordinance, before being submitted to qualified
voters of the town, shall be posted in at least —— of the
public places of said town, for four weeks previous to its sub-
mission to the qualified voters of said town; and no ordinance
for the purchase of real estate shall be of any force or validity
unless it shall receive a majority of the votes cast at such
election.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That an additional section be
added to said article 22 of the Code of Public Local Laws,
title "Washington County," sub-title " Smithsburg," to follow
after section 388, and to be known as section 388 A, and to
read as follows :

New section.

388 A. That the word "Geneva" be and the same is hereby
substituted for the word "Smithsburg," wherever the same
occurs in said article 22, title " Washington County," sub-title
"Smithsburg;" provided, however, that an election to be held
in said town of Smithsburg, on the first Monday of May, in
the year eighteen hundred and ninety-four, the question of the
change of name of said town herein provided for, shall be
submitted to the qualified voters of said town, who shall cast
their ballots, marked, printed or written, "For the change of
name from Smithsburg to Geneva," or "Against the change
of name from Smithsburg to Geneva," respectively, as said
voters shall desire to vote in favor of or against said change;
and if a majority of the votes so cast shall be "For the change
of name from Smithsburg to Geneva," then section three
hundred and sixty-two of this act shall be in effect, and also
section three hundred and eighty-eight A of this act; but if a
majority of the votes so cast shall be "Against the change of
name from Smithsburg to Geneva," the said sections as herein
changed, amended and added, shall be null and void; and the
burgess of said town shall post a notice of the submission of
said question to said voters, in at least three of the public
places of said town, for two weeks previous to its submission
to the qualified voters of said town at said election, as herein-
before provided.
