performance of his duties under this act, which bond shall be
liable to be put in suit by any person damaged or injured by
the neglect or wrongful doings of said sanitary commissioner.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the said sanitary commissioner to remove all filth and garbage
from the houses and premises, streets, alleys and highways in
the town of Towsontown and vicinity, to keep the drains along
the streets, alleys and highways open and clean, to cut and
remove all the weeds and rank grass along the same, and to
clean sidewalks in winter by the use of a snow plow, directly
after the fall of snow; to clean all privies, sinks and sewers,
and to prevent the accumulation of filth and stagnant water
detrimental to health in the village of Towsontown; the said
sanitary commissioner shall have full power to. examine all
alleys, by-ways and premises within said town, and to require
the owners or occupants of rented premises to collect any
garbage, filth or offal about the same in piles convenient for
removal; and upon the failure or refusal of the occupant of any
property to so collect such garbage, filth or offal about the
same in piles convenient for removal, the commissioner shall
do the work and recover the costs thereof from the person for
whom such work shall be done, in a suit before a justice of
the peace; the limits of Towsontown and vicinity, under this
act, shall be three-fourths of one mile in every direction from
the northwest corner formed by the intersection of Pennsyl-
vania avenue and the Baltimore and Yorktown turnpike.

Compensa-
tion.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the sanitary commissioner
appointed under the provisions of this act shall receive a
salary of seven hundred dollars per annum, to be paid by
the County Commissioners of Baltimore county in monthly
installments; and in addition to the salary to be so paid, it
shall be lawful for the sanitary commissioner to demand and
receive twenty-five cents for each privy box emptied by him,

to be paid by the occupant of the premises, and a fair com-
pensation for cleaning out the privies or sinks; upon complaint
made to the County Commissioners for any neglect of duty on
the part of said sanitary commissioner, he shall be notified
thereof, and if upon a hearing, the Comity Commissioners
determine said charges to be well founded, they shall have the
