from the labor of the inmates, and also the number of inmates
in said almshonse, which report, statement and accounts, with
the vouchers that support them, the trustees shall lay before
the County Commissioners, with the reports required of them
by section 9.

17. All meetings of the said trustees shall be held at the
ahnshouse, except such as may be necessary for the settlement
of their accounts with the County Commissioners.

18. No trustee shall furnish on his own account, supplies of
any description for the use of the almshouse, upon pain of
forfeiting the same to the use of the almshouse.

19. The overseer shall not compel any of the inmates of the
almshouse to work, unless ordered to do so by a majority of the
trustees.

Work of
inmates.

20. Upon complaint and due proof, made by the overseer,
that any person, in the said almshouse has behaved in a dis-
orderly manner or has refused or neglected to obey any of the
rules and by-law? of said trustees, said trustees may direct such
moderate and proper correction or punishment to be given to
such offender as the nature of the case may require; but the
overseer shall have no right, and he is hereby prohibited from
inflicting any punishment on such offender, without first having
reported the offense or charge to the said trustees, and so
ordered by them to punish such offender; and any overseer or
officer of said almshouse violating the provisions of this section,
shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined not less than five
dollars and not more than twenty-five dollars for each offense,
and shall be dismissed from said almshouse.

21. Any trustee may, under his hand, in writing, appoint
what poor shall be received into said almshouse

Designation
of poor.

22. The penalties and forfeitures prescribed in sections 3 and
9, may be recovered by action of debt, or by indictment in the
Circuit Court for said county, for the use of the almshouse.

Recovery of
penalties.

23. All sheriffs, bailiffs, constables and other officers, shall
aid the said trustees, and the officers appointed by them, in the
discharge of their respective duties.

Duty of
peace officers.

24. Tf any person shall be sued or prosecuted for anything
done in pursuance of this sub-title of this article, or anything
therein contained, he may plead the general issue and give the
special matter .in evidence, and if upon trial, verdict shall be
