SEC. 26. And be it enacted, That if the bank shall at any
time suspend its payments, the assets which it may hold or be
in anywise entitled to at the time of such suspension of pay-
ments, shall be ratably distributed to and among all persons
who shall be its creditors at such times, or to their assigns,
respectively.

SEC. 27. And be it enacted, That if the president and
directors should at any time suspend the active business opera-
tions or working of the said bank, and a majority of the stock-
holders in general meeting assembled, determine to close the
banking operations, thenceforth it shall not be lawful for the
bank to resume the exercise of its banking powers and fran-
chise, but the same shall be closed, and after the payment of
its debts and liabilities, the remaining assets and property of
the corporation shall be divided pro rata among the stock-
holders.

SEC. 28. And be it enacted, That the General Assembly of
Maryland hereby reserves to itself the right to alter, amend
and repeal this act at its pleasure.

SEC. 29. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 409.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section one
hundred and thirty-nine of Article seven of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title "Carroll County," sub-title "Sheriff,"
and to add additional sections thereto.

Effective.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section 130 of article 7 of the Code of Public
Local Laws, title "Carroll County," sub-title "Sheriff," be and

the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments,
and additional sections to come in after it, and to be known as
sections 139 A and 139 B, so as to read as follows :

SEC. 139. The County Commissioners of Carroll county are
