LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Funkstown, and by that name may sue and be sued, and may
have and use a common seal.

Corporate
limits

245 A. The taxable limits of the town of Funkstown are
hereby declared as follows: Beginning at a point marked "A"
in the north abutment of the stone bridge across Antietam
creek, on the turnpike leading from Funkstown to Hagers-
town, said mark being at the east side of said abutment, and
running eastwardly up said Antietam creek with its meander-
ings on the north bank thereof, a distance of eighteen hundred
and three feet, to a planted stone; thence south forty-three
degrees, east four mundred and seventy feet to the north side
of road leading from Funkstown to Chewsville; thence south
twelve degrees west, ten hundred and seventy-one feet to the
north side of the turnpike leading from Funkstown to Beaver
creek; thence south, seventy-two degrees east, two hundred
feet; thence south nineteen and a fourth degree west, three
hundred and eighty-seven feet; thence north, sixty-nine and
three-fourths degrees west, two hundred and thirty-five feet;
thence south, thirteen and a-half degrees wett, eleven hundred
and fifty-one feet to the west side of the turnpike leading
from Funkstown to Boonboro; thence south, eighty-six and
a-half degrees west, two hundred and thirty eight feet to a
rock marked "X," standing on the south side of Antietam
creek; thence crossing said creek north thirty degrees west
one hundred feet to the north bank of said creek; thence up
said creek with its meanderings on the bank thereof to the
place of beginning; provided, however, that for sanitary and
police purposes, the Burgess and Commissioners of Funkstown
shall have and exercise full power and control for a distance
of one-quarter of a mile in every direction from said corporate
limits.

Vacancies.

249. If during the year for which they were elected, the
burgess, the assistant burgess, or any of the commissioners
shall die, resign, remove from said town or be otherwise dis-
qualified or displaced, the remaining members of said board
shall appoint successors to fill such vacancies.

Powers of
burgess
and com-
missioners.

254. The burgess and commissioners may make such by-laws
and ordinances as they may deem expedient for the comfort,
health, convenience and general prosperity of the said town, as
well as all regulations for the security of property and good
government of said municipality; and to this end it shall have
power to institute a tire department; to prevent, remove and
