CHAPTER 363.

AN ACT to incorporate "The Bureau of Catholic Indian

Missions."

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That James Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore,
Michael A. (Jorrigan, Archbishop of New York, and Patrick J.
Ryan, Archbishop of Philadelphia, and their successors forever
in the respective Archiepiscopal Sees of Baltimore, New York
and Philadelphia, according to the discipline and government
of the Roman Catholic Church, be and they are hereby consti-
tuted a body politic and corporate under the name and style
of the "Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions," and by that
name shall have perpetual succession.

SEC.2. And be it enacted, That the objects of this corpo-
ration are to educate the American Indian and colored races
throughout the State of Maryland, and beyond its borders in
any of the States or Territories of the United States, directly,
and also indirectly, by the training of their teachers and others,
especially to train their youth to become self-sustaining men
and women, using such methods of instruction in the principles
of religion and of human knowledge as may be best adapted
to these purposes; also to visit the sick and poor of these
races, and act as the guardian of such of their orphans and
minor children as may be committed to their care.

Objects.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said corporation, under
the above name and style, shall be capable in law to sue and
be sued, to plead and be impleaded, and to answer and be
answered in any court of law or equity; to make and use a
common seal, and to alter the same; and generally to do and
perform all such acts and make such contracts as may be neces-
sary for the carrying out of the objects of the corporation.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said corporation is
hereby authorized and empowered to receive and hold any real
or personal property in the State of Maryland or elsewhere, by
purchase, lease, gift, devise or bequest, for the purpose of said
corporation; and to grant, dispose of, sell, convey or lease the
same or any part thereof, as fully as any private individual of
other corporate body could or might do.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the principal office of said
corporation shall be in the city of Baltimore, and that the said
