asylum in Allegany county, for confinement and treatment
therein, by order of the Criminal Court for Baltimore city, as
authorized by chapter 123 of the acts of Assembly of 1890;
and

WHEREAS, Said insane prisoners were received at said asylum
and supported and treated therein, and, under chapter 248 of
the acts of Assembly of 1892, the board of managers of said
asylum were paid in full for the same for the years 1890 and
1891, by the State Treasurer; and
|
Preamble.

|
|
WHEREAS, The time of sentence in the penitentiary of
Ambrose Stack expired October 11, 1893, and he, being
restored in mind, was discharged from said asylum; and
|
Preamble.
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The sentence of said Conley was also expired,
but he is still insane and is a violent and dangerous lunatic, so
that he cannot he safely discharged from said asylum; and
|
Preamble.
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Said lunatic was a resident or denizen of Balti-
more city at the time he was arrested and sentenced to the
penitentiary; therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Comptroller of the treasury be and he
is hereby authorized and directed to issue his warrant upon
the Treasurer of the State for the sum of seven hundred and
ten dollars, payable out of the funds in the treasury not other-
wise appropriated, in favor of the board of managers of
Sylvan Retreat Asylum of Allegany county, to pay their claim
for the support and treatment of said insane convicts for the
years 1892 and 1893, and for the support of said Conley for
the year 1894 down to the first day of March, 1894; and the
said Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to pay said
sum of money, said claim having been duly approved by said
treasury officials, according to section 52 of article three of the
Constitution.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the sheriff of Baltimore
city be and he is hereby directed to receive said John R. Con-
ley at once from said Sylvan Retreat Asylum of Allegany
county to the jail of Baltimore city, thence to be hereafter
dealt with by the authorities of said city according to law.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
