LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 81.

AN ACT to authorize the Burgess and Commissioners of
Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland, to issue additional
bonds for the purpose of paying the balance of indebtedness
contracted in the construction of water works of said town.

Preamble.

Preamble: WHERAS, by an act of the General Assembly of
Maryland, entitled an act to authorize the Bnrgess and Com-
missioners of Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland, to
issue bonds for the purpose of constructing, operating and
keeping in repair, water works for the said town, passed at the
January session of 1892, and being chapter 188 of the acts of
said session, the said Burgess and Commissioners were author-
ized and empowered to issue bonds in the name of the said
municipal corporation to an amount not exceeding the sum
of eleven thousand dollars, the proceeds of the sale thereof to
be applied to the construction and maintenance of a reservoir
and necessary mains to supply with water the said town of
Middletown and vicinity; provided, that at the first municipal
election held after the passage of said act, the question of
issuing said bonds should be submitted to the qualified
voters of said town, and should receive in its favor a majority
of the votes cast at said election; and

WHEREAS, The question of issuing said bonds having been

duly submitted to and approved by the qualified voters of said
town, in the manner required by said act, the said Burgess and
Commissioners, by virtue of the power conferred by said act,
did issue and sell said bonds to the amount of eleven thousand
dollars, and did proceed to construct and have constructed the
water works aforesaid; and

Preamble,

WHEREAS, In the construction of said water works said
Burgess and Commissioners found it necessary to incur an
indebtedness in excess of the amount realized from the issue
and sale of said bonds, in order that said water works might be
suitable and adequate for the purposes for which they were
designed; therefore,

May issue
bonds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the said Burgess and Commissioners of
Middletown, Frederick county, Maryland, are hereby author-
ized and empowered to issue bonds in the name of the said
municipal corporation to an additional amount not exceeding
thirty-five hundred dollars, which said bonds shall be issued in
