LAWS OF MARYLAND.

SEC. 8. It shall not be lawful for any person to shoot, or

in any manner catch, kill or have, in possession, in Carroll
county, any partridge or rabbit, between the twenty-fifth day
of December and the eighth day of November next ensuing,
both days exclusive, in each and every year; any nheasant
or squirrel, between the first day of January and the first day
of September, exclusive, or any woodcock, between the first
day of February and the fifteenth day of June, exclusive; nor
shall any person during such period destroy or molest the eggs
or nests of said birds in said county.

License.

SEC. 9 A. It shall not be lawful for any person not a bona
fide resident or taxpayer of Carroll county to shoot any wood-
cock, pheasants, partridges, rabbits or squirrels in the said
county without having first obtained from the clerk of the
Circuit Court for said county a license permitting the person
named in said license to shoot game in said county for one
year from the day on which said license is issued, such license
to give to the licensee no rights other than those possessed by

citizens of the county under this act; and the person named
therein, or party procuring such license, shall pay the said
clerk for such license the sum of ten dollars, which amount
shall be turned over by said clerk to the Board of County
School Commissioners of Carroll county for the use of the
public schools in said county, and fifty cents to the said clerk
for his fee for issuing said license; and any non-resident con-
tacted before a justice of the peace of said county of gunning

or trapping within the limits of said county without a license
so to do, shall be fined ten dollars for each bird, rabbit or squir-
rel found in his possession, or proven to have been killed by
him in case none are found in his possession, and shall forfeit
his gun or other instrument used by him in the killing or
taking thereof, the same to become the property of the person
on whose premises such non-resident may be found gunning or,
trapping; and on failure to pay said fine of ten dollars the
offender shall be confined in the county jail for ten days; pro-

vided, that any land owner may by express authority extend
the privilege of killing said game upon his land to whomso-
ever he pleases during the parts of the year in which the kill-
ing of such games is lawful under the provisions of this act,
unless the person so privileged be engaged in taking or killing
said game for the market, in which case the aforesaid license
fee shall be paid in the manner specified; in case of conviction
for any offense under the provisions of this act, one half of all
tines imposed shall be paid to the informer, and the other half
