LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Result of
election

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if it shall appear by the
returns of said judges of election and certificate of the clerk
of said court, that a majority of the votes cast in the said
district, shall be against the sale of spirituous, fermented
liquors or lager beer, then jt shall not be lawful for any
person or persons, or body corporate, to sell directly or indi-
rectly at any place in said district, or to give away at his, her
or their place of business, in said district, any spirituous or

fermented liquors, or lager beer or any intoxicating drinks of
any kind; nor shall it be lawful for the clerk of the Circuit
Court for Frederick county to issue a license for the sale of
spirituous or fermented liquors or lager beer in said district,
on or after the first day of May, in the year eighteen hundred
and ninety-four.

. Penalty.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That if any person or persons,
or body corporate, shall sell directly or indirectly at any place
within said district, or give away at his, her or their place of
business in said district, any spirituous or fermented liquors or
lager beer, or intoxicating drinks of any kind, on or after the
first day of May, in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-
four, should the majority of votes cast at said election be
against the sale of spirituous or fermented liquors or lager
beer, he, she or they shall on conviction thereof in the Circuit
Court for said county be fined not less than fifty dollars nor
more than three hundred dollars for each offence.

Oaths of
judges and
clerks.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
of said Frederick county shall appoint three judges of election
and two clerks, residents of said district, for said special elec-
tion, each of whom shall qualify by taking the following oaths
respectively: "I, A. B., do swear or affirm that I will permit
all persons to vote who shall offer to vote at the special election
now to be held for Cragerstown district, in Frederick county,
whose names shall appear on the list of voters furnished to
me as required by law, as qualified voters under the Con-
stitution and laws of this State, and that I will not permit any
person to vote at the said election whose name shall not be
found upon the said list of qualified voters, and I will in all
things execute the office of judge of the said election according
to the best of rny knowledge, without favor or partiality, so
help me God." "I, A. B., do swear or affirm that I will well
and faithfully, without favor or affection or partiality, exe-
cute the office of clerk of the special election now to be held,
according to the best of my knowledge, so help me God."
