LAWS OF MARYLAND.

missioners, " be and the same is hereby repealed, and that sec-
tions 49 and 49 A of said article and sub-title, as the same
were enacted by chapter 569 of the acts of 1892, be and the
same are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, so
as to read as follows:

County Com-
missioners.

49. There shall hereafter be five County Commissioners for
Charles county; and the Governor is hereby authorized and
directed, immediately after the passage of this act, to appoint
from the legally qualified citizens of said county, two persons
to serve as County Commissioners of said county until the
general election, to be held therein on the Tuesday next after
the first Monday in November, eighteen hundred and ninety-
five, or until their successors are duly elected and qualified.

Tenure of
office.

49 A. That two of the County Commissioners now holding
the said office in said county, viz: William F. Sims and George
W. Carroll, shall hold their respective offices as follows, to wit:
the said William F. Sims shall hold his said office for a period
of four years from the date of his election on the first Tuesday
after the first Monday in November, 1891; and the said George
W. Carroll shall hold his said office for six years from the date
of the election of his predecessor in office on the first Tuesday
after the first Monday in the month of November, in the year
1891; and the County Commissioners of said county elected
on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in the month of
November, 1893, shall hold his office for six years from the
date of his election; and at the general election to be held in
Charles county on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in
the month of November, 1895, there shall be elected by the
legal and qualified voters of said county, three legally qualified
persons as County Commissioners for said county, who shall
serve, respectively, as follows: one for the term of two years;
one for the term of four years, and one for the term of six
years, or until their successors are elected and qualified; and
every second year thereafter there shall be elected in said
county at the general election to be held therein, the number
of persons as County Commissioners equal to the number
whose term shall then expire, who shall serve for the term of
six years or until their successors shall be elected and qualified.

Effective.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
