SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 658.
AN ACT to facilitate the examination of titles of land in
Caroline County, by authorizing the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Caroline County to make out a general index to
the law dockets in his office, and to provide for the payment
of the same.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Caroline
County be and he is hereby authorized and required to make
out, in a fair and legible handwriting, a general index, under
the system known as the "Campbell System," in the names of
both "Plaintiffs and Defendants," of all judgments recovered
in said court and now standing open and unsatisfied, from the
year eighteen hundred and eighty-two to eighteen hundred
and ninety-four, and shall be allowed the sum of five cents for
each name in which said index is made, in addition to all costs
for index record books, to be furnished by said clerk and to be
paid for by the County Commissioners for Caroline county ;
provided, however, that the entire cost of making said index
shall not exceed the sum of three hundred dollars.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County Commissioners
of Caroline County be and they are hereby directed to pay to
the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Caroline County, whatever
sum or sums of money may be found to be due him under the
preceding section; provided, that nothing shall be paid until
the work provided for under the preceding sections shall be
examined and approved by the County Commissioners or their
attorney.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That from and after the passage
of this act it shall be the duty of said clerk to enter in said
index, in the name of both plaintiffs and defendants, all judg-
ments thereafter, and also to enter the eatne satisfied and ended,
for which service he shall be allowed the sum of twenty-five
